Meet Pooky, Our Spirited Cockatoo

Pooky is a striking hybrid cockatoo, about six years old, with all the charm, energy, and intelligence that make these birds unforgettable companions. She’s fully feathered, bright-eyed, and always ready to let the world know when she has something to say. Her favorite pastimes include dancing, shredding toys, and hollering along when the mood strikes her.

Like many young cockatoos, Pooky is a big personality in a compact feathery package. She has grown up loved, but she has also shown that she needs a very special kind of home with experience, patience, and an understanding of cockatoo quirks. She has a history of being unpredictable when handled, so she isn’t a bird for beginners or for households hoping for a “cuddle companion” right away. What she needs is someone who can offer space, structure, and gentle consistency while allowing her time to feel secure again.

Pooky enjoys a healthy diet of Roudybush and Zupreem pellets with plenty of fruits and vegetables, and she goes wild for shreddable wood toys. She seems most comfortable around soft-spoken men but will thrive with anyone who respects her boundaries. While she doesn’t pluck and she’s in beautiful feather, she will need enrichment and careful training to bring out the best in her.

This young cockatoo has so many years ahead of her, and with the right match she could blossom into the incredible bird we know she is inside. She cannot be placed in a family home at this time since her rehabilitation journey comes first, but for the right experienced adopter willing to work with her, Pooky could be a once-in-a-lifetime companion.
